Warts are growths of the skin caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) of which there are over 70 types. They commonly affect the hands, feet (veruccae) or elsewhere.
To get rid of them the body’s own immune system has to be stimulated to attack the wart virus. This often requires persistence with treatment and patience. Treatment options are applying wart paints or freezing (cryotherapy) with liquid nitrogen at 2 to 4 week intervals. Curettage and Cautery (electrosurgery) can be used for large or troublesome warts.
